Wyevale Landscapes and Ground Maintenance

Below are a selection of contracts, large and small, Wyevale have undertaken in the past ten years, demonstrating how Wyevale can adapt and tailor their skills and experience to the specific requirements that each project requires.

 

 

 

2006 Rooftop Housing
Worcestershire, Northamptonshire, N Somerset, W Midlands and Gloucestershire
January 2006
On the 1 January Wyevale commenced a new contract for Rooftop Housing Association for the maintenance of all their landscapes areas covering not just the Worcestershire properties but also all their other properties which includes Northamptonshire, North Somerset, West Midlands and Gloucestershire. The service covers all aspects including grass cutting, shrub maintenance, hedge cutting, and tree works. Wyevale have undertaken the grounds maintenance services for the Association since its incorporation and prior to that had undertaken as part of the District Council Contract. Wyevale have therefore been maintaining the areas since 1993 and under this contract are now guaranteed until 2010 and there is an optional 2 year extension which means that should this be taken up Wyevale will have maintained the areas for almost 20 years!

 

2005 Primley Avenue Park
Walsall
October  2005
The area in question is a former landfill site and we were working with contaminated ground. The scheme involved the formation of new footpaths, installation of a Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) and the supply and installation of play equipment. The works involved the movement of 100's of cubic metres of topsoil which is to be banked on site and capped off with imported topsoil. To reduce the amount of Type 1 aggregate Wyevale will be utilising crushed brick which is a recycled product which is good in wet ground conditions where Type 1 does not tend to bind very well. The contract value is £208k.
Coniston Crescent
North Somerset
October 2005
The installation of footpaths, a Multi Use Games Area (MUGA), two new play areas, large feature entrances, construction of Gazebo and soft landscaping to a new park in  the Bourneville area of Weston-Super-Mare. The contract involves the movement of a large amount of soil within a limited area. The contract value is £335k.
King George Playing Field

September 2005
The installation of a series of steps on a long incline, the formation of a new car park and the construction of new footpaths and hard landscape features together with new furniture such as seats and benches. There is also new soft landscaping encompassing large trees and shrub planting. The contract value is £215k.
University of Sussex
Brighton, Sussex
September 2005
Wyevale has been awarded a contract worth in excess of £300,000 per annum for the maintenance of the University campus and sports ground. The contract commenced on 1 September 2005 and is for an initial 3 years with a 2 year optional extension. The work covers a wide range of operations including road sweeping, grass cutting, fine turf maintenance and tree and shrub maintenance. The standard of the football pitches is very high as it is used by Championship football club Brighton & Hove Albion
The Leap POS
Bristol
July 2005
Landscaping of a park at Stoke Park in North Bristol . The works included the installation of steps, formation of embankments, top soiling, tree and shrub planting. The works also included for the supply and installation of play equipment. The contract is worth just in excess of £100k
Gloucestershire FM Services
Quedgeley
June 2005
The works covered the soft landscaping of the New Police Headquarters in Gloucester. The works included large tree planting, shrub beds and turfing. The site included a Ha-Ha which had to use a special cell membrane to stabile the area prior to being planted. The contract value is £70k
South Warwickshire Housing Association

On the 1 April Wyevale was awarded the contract for the maintenance of the housing areas in the Stratford-Upon-Avon area for South Warwickshire Housing Association. This is the 3rd time that the company has been awarded the contract and was re-tendered after a 2 year extension on the last contract. The contract also has an option for a 2 year extension. The works cover cleansing, grass & shrub maintenance & hedge cutting.
North Somerset Council

January 2005
Wyevale have recently been successful in winning a substantial contract with North Somerset Council. A 5 year contract with a 5 year optional extension the contract started on the 31 January 2005 with a total value of over £10m. The work encompasses, parks, sports fields and general grounds maintenance contract covering the areas of Weston-Super-Mare, Cleavdon, Portishead and surrounding towns and villages of North Somerset. The work covers areas around the busy seaside Town of Weston. 
The contract was awarded on the basis of "Best Value" and Wyevale were not the cheapest tender. David Brew, Managing Director stated "This is an exciting win for the company and it is pleasing to have a contract which is virtually on our doorstep and we are looking forward to delivering the service that the client requires"
Runnymede Borough Council

January 2005
  Wyevale have recently been successful in winning a contract with Runnymede Borough Council. A 6 year contract with a 2 year optional extension the contract started on the 1 January 2005 with a total value of over £2m. The work encompasses verges, parks, sports fields, and general grounds maintenance contract covering the areas surrounding Chertsey in Surrey.

The construction and installation of a new play area including play equipment, safety surfaces and fencing. Commenced March 2004. Contract value £64K

Henry Barber Play Area

The construction and installation of a new play area including play equipment, safety surfaces and fencing. Commenced March 2004. Contract value £40K

Parks, Sports Fields, Cemeteries, etc
Lewes District Council

Wyevale have recently been successful in winning a substantial contract with Lewes District Council the 10 year contract starts on the 1 March 2004 with a total value of £8m. This is a cemeteries, parks, sports fields and general grounds maintenance contract covering the areas of Lewes, Seaford and surrounding villages. Wyevale will also be delivering a parks Warden service to improve security and increase liaison between the users and the authority during peak season.

London Borough of Haringey
London

Environmental improvements contract involving the clearance of shrub beds and replanting and turfing works. Contract commenced January 2004. Contract value £80k

Bradford Place
Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council

The dismantling of a cenotaph in Walsall, replacing the weather Portland stone, installing new benches, lighting, paving, and construction of stone walling. Commenced in January 2004. Contract value £163k

London Borough of Bromley

A 4 year grounds maintenance contract for cemeteries and closed churchyards. This commenced on the 1 January 2004. Works include grass cutting, annual bedding, shrub bed maintenance & Grave digging. Contract value approx £1m.

The demolition and clearance of an old play area, regarding and reinstatement of grass. The installation of a new play area including play equipment, safety surfaces and fencing. Commenced September 2003.
Ikea 
Bristol & Cardiff
 
The Bristol site is to upgrade existing planting works and enhancement of the soft landscaping. The Cardiff site is to install subsoil, topsoil, and supply and plant a substantial number of trees and shrubs. Commenced September 2003. 
Diamond Project
Oxford
 
Soft landscape works surrounding a government research centre. Works include seeding and tree and shrub planting. Commenced September 2003. 
The Withies Community Area
Herefordshire Council
 
Community play area involving the demolition of old hard landscape features such as walls and paths and the installation of wooden retaining walls, earthworks, fencing, new paths, installation of play equipment and soft landscape works. Commenced August 2003.
Wormwood Scrubs Play Area
London
A play area up grade involving the removal of play equipment and Surfacing,
earth moving and contouring, new play surfacing, equipment, furniture and
planting commence on site May 2003
New Walk Restoration
Leicester
 
The enhancement of a 200 year old thorough fare between Leicester University
and the City centre. The project consists of the removal and replanting of
shrub beds and the planting of 60 semi-mature trees consisting of Platanus
(London plain) and Tilia (Lime's) commenced on site in April 2003
Trostre Industrial Park
Llanelli
 
An Environmental Improvements phase 1 consisting of Semi mature tree
planting, shrub planting and grass seeding together with hard Landscaping
including the construction of Stone walls, fencing and paving. Wyevale
commenced in April 2003.
2002 Hastings Borough Council
Bethune Way, Hastings
 
Works consisted of clearance of existing vegetation and disused concrete steps on embankment adjacent to Alexandra Park.  Provision and planting of specimen shrubs previously sourced and allocated by client into prepared soiled areas.  Shrub beds then covered with approximately 50cu.m. of recycled green waste mulch. 
South Glamorgan Council
Atlantic Trading Estate, Barry  
 
Works consisted of reclamation of soils from on site waste stockpiles, formation of bunds and planting beds.  Erection of rabbit proof netting, 1500lin.m.  Planting of cell grown plant stock, approximately 6000 Spreading of 400cu.m. of bark mulch, incorporation of green waste compost and fertilisers.
Spelthorne Council
Orchard Meadow, Sunbury on Thames
May/June 2002
Provision of parkland area which included demolition of 17th century wall and rebuilding of new walls using reclaimed bricks from demolished wall.  Incorporation of various fencing and ironworks features to boundaries.  Planting avenue of trees either side of new Breedon gravel footpath.  Works to re-arrange car parking in adjacent car park to include relocation of kerbing, paving and new tarmac toppings.  Grass seeding to include provision of a wildflower meadow area. 
English Heritage
Governors Garden, Portland Castle
June 2002
Works undertaken within the walled boundary of this historic property.  Clearance works undertaken to remove overgrown vegetation, excavations to provide a construction of a flat circular amphitheatre surrounded by walling consisting of Portland stone, cut and supplied by adjacent local quarry.  Specimen shrub planting carried out to include clipped Buxus and specimen pine trees.

MoD Abbey Wood Bristol
Dec/Jan 2002

A design and build contract at the Mod Procurement Headquarters in Bristol.  The brief was to create a parkland environment within a large office complete.  Project consisted of:

Re-grading a derelict part of the site approximately 10,000sq.m.
Importing and spreading approximately 2,000 tonnes of topsoil
Constructing double size tennis courts with appropriate fencing
Extensive paving and seating areas
Constructing a small lake
Planting 30 semi mature trees and various native shrubs to aid in the biodiversity management within this large MoD site.

Osterley Garden Centre, Hounslow, London
Adrian Draffin Associates/Wyevale Garden Centres
Dec/Jan 2002

Creation of parkland environment on land adjacent to the Garden Centre which was formerly a derelict site.  Works comprise:

Substantial earth moving and re-grading to achieve a pleasant contoured setting
Link paths constructed for proposed arboretum setting
Planting consisting of 220 large specimen trees with various underplanting of 7000 native whips
All areas dressed with bark mulch

It is anticipated that during the maintenance period development of the woodland area will continue with specimen planting being undertaken to reflect plants offered for sale in the adjoining Garden Centre.

Bristol City Council
BMX Skateboard Park, Lawrence Weston

Excavation and construction of park, laying of track, construction of ramps using 10,000 tonnes of material, preparation of ground and laying of 740m2 of tarmac.  Installation of BMX equipment.  Prepare planting beds and plant 5080 shrubs

Abbeywood Station
MOD Abbeywood, Filton

Planting to new build railway station and adjacent car park to include clearance, planting two thousand ornamental shrubs, thirty trees, bulk mulch and over four hundred native whips.

The Vale
Portishead

Planting of thirty thousand native transplants and trees, grass seeding 8,000m2, creation of natural habitat around lake area, hard landscape to entrance ways and park land.

Zouch Estate
Tidworth

Consisting of tree planting to MOD accommodation estate. One thousand trees planted. Including excavation of all tree pits, cart away risings, re-topsoiling pits, composting and bark mulching to finish. Work in private gardens and adjacent to road verges.

Broad Oak School
Weston Super Mare

Replacement of existing school with new building which Wyevale has been involved with topsoiling and grass seeding of the newly completed school.

Butlins Havan Leisure
Pwllheli, North Wales

Planting of one thousand trees, whips and shrubs. 15,000m2 of turfing, ten kilometres of fencing, 100,000m2 of waste ground clearance and cultivation for re-seeding and planting.

Batchelors Acre
Windsor

Formation of park land area for residents and tourists to Windsor. Planting 25 semi-mature selected and tagged trees, 800 selected ornamental shrubs, 150m2 of quality turf, 3000m2 of seeding and 20m3 of mulching.

Richmond Heights
Bath

500 various sized trees, 500 native species, transplants to boundaries, 4,000m2 of meadow seed areas, 80m3 of mulching.

Pleck Gas Works
Walsall

Reclaimation of fomer gas works site, 16,000 ornamental shrubs, 240 various sized trees, 15,000 native transplants to boundary areas.  Application of 300m3 of bark mulch and 800m3 of mushroom compost. Supply and spread 3,000 tonnes of screened topsoil, hydraseeding to an area of 65,000m2.

Cheltenham Hospital
Cheltenham, Gloucester

Car parking and external courtyard area planting of 3400 ornamental shrubs with 60 specimen shrubs, creation of pond feature, laying of 100m2 of high quality turf. Erection of trellis panels to building for climbing plants. 60m3 of bark mulching.

Castle Vale POS
Birmingham

Consisted of reclaiming land form former factory site to form a park land area for the local community.  Planting of 60,000 native trees and shrubs, construction of footpath and cycleways, large timer decking area around wetland pond area.  Local community project sponsored various parcels of land on the site to include planting and maintenance all supervised by Wyevale.

Approximately 80,000 trees and transplants to naturalise the motorway embankments. Wildflower seeding and wetland management behind Toll Plazas.

Brynglas Tunnels Phase I, II and III
Wales

To include re-establishment of native plant stock 150,000 trees and shrubs, wildflower seeding, ornamental planting to main Newport road junction including installation of extensive irrigation system

BA Avionics
Llantrisant, South Wales

Project for British Airways. With Laing South Wales, Percy Thomas Landscapes. 500m3 of topsoil with 15,000m2 of Rolawn tufing. Planting 1000 advanced nursery stock trees,  feathered trees, 18,000 shrubs, 12,000 whips and 350m3 of bark mulch
